CSWB Holds Career Week to Find Clarity and Purpose in Setonians’ Career Blueprints

As Elizabeth Seton School-South (ESS-South) gradually returned to the in-person modality, they also began to practice career week traditions that were put on hold during the online phase. Along with selected alumni speakers and the GuidanceNGO, ESS-South was able to hold another successful career week spearheaded by the Center for Student Well-being (CSWB) held last October 17-24, 2022 with the theme “#FLEX: Finding Clarity and Purpose in Setonian’s Career Blueprints.” 

October 17, 2022, to start, was specifically allotted for the Grade 12 learners. They attended school in their formal attire in preparation for their mock interview headed by the CSWB. As these learners draw near to their entry in college, the activity was able to hone their communication skills for the mandatory interviews held during the application process in colleges.

On October 19, 2022, the Senior High School (SHS) learners attended a webinar entitled “Gearing Up: College Testimonials by Alumni.” The first alumni speaker was Danna Leigh G. Amposta who currently studies BS Nursing at The De La Salle Health and Sciences Institute, followed by Micah Angeline P. Atesor who currently studies AB Psychology at The De La Salle University – Dasmariñas. The third alumni speaker was Mogens Albert R. Fukuhara who is currently taking up BS Architecture at The De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, followed by Jose Miguel A. Escalona who is currently taking up BS Computer Science at The De La Salle University – Manila. The last alumni speaker was Joaquin Alfonso B. Rivera who is currently studying BS Business Management at The Ateneo De Manila University.

On October 20, 2022, the same SHS learners were given the chance to attend the Colleges and Universities Webinar in collaboration with six prestigious universities in the Philippines with their respective representatives from De La Salle University – Dasmariñas, De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, De La Salle University – Manila, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, Mapua University, and University of Santo Tomas. 

On the same day, the Grade 10 learners were also given the opportunity to attend a Career Talk by Alumni Professionals with the presence of five selected alumni speakers. Raniella Ylouise A. Mata, who graduated BS Medical Technology at the University of Santo Tomas, kick-started this webinar, followed by Gaea Marelle J. Miranda, MSc, RPsy who graduated AB Behavioral Sciences at the University of the Philippines – Manila. The third speaker was Atty. Maria Ahren P. Vergara whose talk also focused on law school, followed by Kriz Mae B. Alcala – Abellar. The last speaker was Lorenzo Thaddeus A. Papa who graduated BS Business Administration, Major in Computer Applications at the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde.

On October 21, 2022, the Choices Webinar by GuidanceNGO took place for the Grade 10 learners. This talk was headed by Mr. Serafin “Junn” Geronimo. Through this webinar, the students obtained a clear vision of the paths ahead of them and were able to have a glimpse of their chosen strands and courses.

Later that day, the SHS learners listened to the Career Clinic and College Fair by GuidanceNGO. This webinar acted as a “gateway” for these students to explore and discover different career paths. A wide variety of college courses were discussed as well as the job opportunities for each course stated.

On October 22, 2022, the parents of Preschool to SHS learners had the chance to attend the Career Webinar for Parents by GuidanceNGO. This webinar aimed to point out the importance of parents’ guidance and support as they continuously walk their children through their journey in life.

On October 24, 2022, the Grade 12 learners were given the opportunity to dig deeper into the different colleges and universities through the College and University Fair in the form of an Audio Visual Presentation (AVP). The CSWB reached out to different schools and asked for necessary information such as application requirements, application period, entrance exam dates, and the release of their application results. The included schools were also asked to give a 10-minute AVP of their program offerings to serve as reference for the learners’ college applications.

As ESS-South strives to produce career-ready learners, the CSWB shall continue to hold career counseling sessions from October to February in order to guide the learners in finding clarity and building a strong foundation for their bright futures.
