Learn more about our Home Based Learning Program (HVLP).
Learning Framework
The Elizabeth Seton School Home-Based Virtual Learning Program (HVLP) aims to enable learners to engage in purposive and meaningful learning in the safe confines of their homes. With the support of appropriate technology, learners will be guided by teachers through learning exercises aimed at the systematic achievement of expected learning competencies. Lessons are delivered through video, on-line discussions, and other learner-centered strategies during regularly scheduled virtual classes and asynchronous sessions
ELIZA and the Learn2Lead Program
ELIZA is short for Educational Links for Integrative Systems Applications. ELIZA is the acronym for the learning platforms used to deliver Seton’s HVLP. ELIZA is the integration of our Learning Management System, G Suite, and Zoom platforms that drive the Learning Experiences, Resources, and Networks towards Learner Excellence and Development (LEaRN2LEaD) program.
The LEaRN2LEaD program focuses on purposive teaching and learning experiences; well-defined learning objectives; instructional resources; and technologies that lead to meaningful learner engagement. This is reinforced by authentic assessment and teacher support that ensure learner excellence and development. The LEaRN2LEaD program is geared to ensure the effective delivery of Seton’s HVLP and learners’ eventual transition to OCLP.
Questions and Answers
1. What is the Elizabeth Seton School learning framework?
Elizabeth Seton School learning framework, referred to as LEaRN2LEaD: Learning Experiences, References, and Networks Towards Learner Excellence and Development: Seton Educational Resources and Virtual Environment, aims to Make a Difference in the Delivery of Quality Catholic Education and Learning Continuity.
LEaRN: Learning Experiences, Resources and Networks
LEaD: Focus on Learner Excellence and Development
SERVE: Seton Education Reimagined with Virtual learning Environment
LEaRN2LEaD provides Setonian’s with a safe and conducive learning environment that promotes learning continuity in a Home-Based Virtual Learning (HVLP) or blended learning, a combination of HVLP and On Campus Learning Program (OCLP). The transformative, learner-centered framework provides for meaningful and purposive learner engagement by seamlessly converging on-campus educational resources and virtual learning, systematically making use of varied learning experiences, resources and networks, and focusing on essential learning competencies that link theories to real-life experiences.
2. Will LEaRN2LEaD be adopted throughout SY 2021-2022?
Yes. During the first term, as a precautionary measure, the school shall adopt an exclusively Home-Based Virtual Learning Program (HVLP) model where learners will follow a general academic routine on-line that includes structured virtual learning sessions that allows for: asynchronous and synchronous class sessions, engaged learning activities, faculty supervision/ consultation, peer interaction, and assessment of learners.
3. How long will the HVLP be implemented?
For as long as necessary.
Our priority is the safety of our learners and we will only schedule face to face sessions when the vaccine becomes available and the danger from the pandemic is diminished or eliminated. Pharmaceutical companies expect to release a vaccine some time October – December of this year. When environmental conditions permit, and subject to IATF and DepEd guidelines, we will gradually transition to blended learning using both online and classroom lessons.
4. Will my child physically report to school for any activity / school requirement during the HVLP?
No. This will be delivered fully online.
5. Will my child need parent / adult supervision at any point in HVLP?
For Primary Learners (Toddler to Grade 2) some assistance may be required in the initial use of the device and basic navigation of the platforms. Minimal assistance is required in doing the learning exercises.
6. My child and I are not proficient with computers and management of the internet, how can we adapt?
a. The school’s Tech Team is continuously working to ensure that learning platforms used are user friendly and easy to navigate.
b. Training and orientation sessions will be made available for both parents and learners.
c. A General Manual will be provided with step-by-step instructions on access and use of ELIZA, the school’s learning management system.
d. The school provides virtual on-line support for all users. Users can contact them via the Zoom link in the school website or by emailing support@ess.edu.ph.
7. Will our children be required to report to virtual class Monday to Friday from 7:15am to 3:00pm?
Yes and no.
Our programs aim to provide learners a sense of routine by providing them a regular class schedule followed on a daily basis. Regular and punctual attendance is required during synchronous class sessions; while flexible check-in within a defined time frame is allowed during asynchronous sessions and supervised study. The framework provides for a balance of virtual learning sessions, with prescribed screen time by age groups, combined with independent study.
8. Will my child have opportunities to interact with classmates in a HVLP program?
Yes. Interaction, discussion, and group activities are essential features of synchronous learning sessions. Clubs and special interest groups that can meet on-line will also be organized.
9. How is the HVLP different from other programs?
As part of our Catholic identity, the CCF program will continue to be offered online. All subjects will also integrate the Setonian Core Values, Essential Character Qualities, and Megaskills.
10. Are the class sizes the same?
No. For optimal learning and student engagement, smaller class sizes will be implemented.
11. What student services will be available online?
Learners will be given virtual access to the Library, Spiritual Guidance, and Guidance & Mentoring services.
12. Will the HVLP Framework require each of my children to have a gadget to himself?
Preferably, yes.
Each grade level will be following a different schedule of synchronous / asynchronous classes and independent study periods from Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 3:00pm. It is reasonable to share a device between siblings but we highly recommend a device for each child.
13. What technology / internet access should I have at home to effectively implement HVLP?
Instructional activities of the HVLP Program will be delivered primarily through ELIZA, the school’s Learning Management System, supported by Zoom and Google Suite. These applications are browser-based and mainly require an internet connection and do not need significant computing power. Only the Zoom application must be installed in the tablet or computer.
The minimum required bandwidth is 600kbps (up/down) and the recommended average bandwidth speed is 1.5mbps (up/down). Zoom consumes roughly 1mb/min. Please be reminded that these recommended connection speeds are on a per user basis. Multiple users on the same network will yield different results.
Our recommended devices are a laptop, a desktop with a camera, and / or a full-size tablet. A cellphone will work but has certain limitations on the display size and functionality that will affect the overall experience for the learner particularly during synchronous session which is why we do not encourage using cellphones for the HVLP.
The minimum operating system requirements for computers are Microsoft Windows 7 or Mac OS X with Mac OS 10.10 or higher. The minimum system requirements are Intel i3 Haswell or AMD FX63 series with 4Gb of RAM. For optimal performance, we recommend Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 with 8Gb of RAM.
For tablets and cellphones: any Apple iOS tablet 4th Gen or higher; any Android device using OS 4.0 or higher with CPU: ARM v6 or X86 dual core 1.5Ghz and above; or any Windows 10 or higher tablet.
14. How will these changes affect school fees?
The school miscellaneous fees will be REDUCED based on projected schedules and changes in activities. Adjustments were made on student publications, energy fees, computer related fees, medical provisions, and subscriptions. Fees for activities that will not be implemented this school year will not be charged. These include: standardized testing, entrepreneurship / career, athletic, laboratories, retreats and recollections.
15. Is there a difference between home schooling and HVLP?
Yes.
In home schooling, parents purchase or build the curriculum and serve as the teachers. In an HVLP setting, the school facilitates learning in a virtual environment. Other distinct differences in home schooling and HVLP are the social opportunities and collaborations between learners. Home school is designed for one-on-one learning while HVLP is designed to accommodate groups and foster engagement, interaction and collaboration.
16. I am considering my child to skip school for this school year. What are the implications?
There are a number of implications socially and academically. When a student skips a school year and returns the following school year, they will be “left behind” by their social circles. This means they would need to establish new social connections among their new peers which can be challenging and difficult especially when the bond with current friends is strong. This can also lead to issues with social stigmas related to being left behind by their batch.
Academically, students are presumed to have been academically inactive throughout the missed period. The school will need to reassess the learner’s current capabilities by retaking the entrance exams. Academic inactivity for extended periods may lead to difficulty in motivating the learner to return to school; complications following school routines; and readapting to a formal academic environment.
17. Do we need to purchase books?
Under the HVLP program in general, minimal textbooks will be required. The learners will be using mostly teacher made materials, online references, and downloadable resources. Only the basic subjects will require textbooks – English, Math, Science, AP, and Filipino.
18. Can I register / enroll online?

Why Choose Seton?
In Elizabeth Seton School, we believe in guiding learners to become the best person they can be by providing them an environment they feel welcome, safe, and where people around them continuously support their growth as learners.
This is where they begin to find themselves; their place in society; and grasp a sense of purpose.
Here is where they find the siblings they never had; the people whom they will grow with; their friends for life; and the home they will call their Alma mater.
